Howard Wilder – Raku
The Courtyard Gallery proudly presents Howard Wilder, Saturday August 15th and Sunday August 16th 12:00-4:00.
For 35 years Howard Wilder has been a successful potter. However, for the past 15 of those years he has been creating a unique style of Asian/Native American Indian raku pottery. His numerous trips to New Mexico, has enabled him to work and learn from an amazing group of Indian potters. They shared their techniques for carving, firing, and burnishing that greatly aided him with knowledge that had been passed down from generation to generation. Their knowledge along with his skills and rare vision enable him to create the unpredictable beautiful colors and crackling effects raku pottery presents.

As a representational painter, he doesn’t paint photographically, but rather what his mind sees. He is a member of the American Watercolor Society and the Society of Marine Artists. Adding to the complexity of this highly skilled artist is a series of soft abstract paintings that Randall began creating many years ago. His watercolor and abstract pieces share a unique feature, they complement each other when hung together in the same environment.

The Courtyard Gallery is proud to present Diane Kuhl from “Waterbirds at the Kuhl Spot”, Saturday April 18th from 12:00-5:00. For many years the Courtyard Gallery has had the privilege of knowing and supporting Diane Kuhl, a renowned water bird rehabber. She has cared for thousands of injured and orphaned water fowl and shore birds for over 30 years at her facility, “Waterbirds at the Kuhl Spot”, located on Hudson Lake in New Carlisle, Indiana. A certified practitioner of healing touch for animals she has an intense personal concern for the wildlife we all live among. While working for a veterinarian in South Bend, Indiana, Diane became interested in helping water fowl. The rest is history. She has attended many symposiums and workshops and now cares for over 300 orphaned and injured birds every summer. Most arrive at her facility because of contact with humans, encounters with other wildlife or physical abnormalities. Though she returns many birds to the wild every year, her dedication, knowledge and love of wildlife has gone a long way in bridging the gap between human contact and loss of habitat.

IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME
Mark your calendars . . . for Art Attack weekend, Saturday April 25th and Sunday April 26th, 11:00-5:00
Finally, after 25 years, the Courtyard Gallery has become a place where photography lovers and painters can connect.
This year we are very pleased to announce the addition of fine art photography to the gallery.
Both local and national photographers are joining us in exhibiting their works. All photos are limited editions and will be exclusive to the Courtyard.
Take a tour through the lenses of both Brett Maniscalco and Brian Adams. Brett is an award winning fine art photographer, who has lived in the area for several years and has an intimate feel and love for Harbor Country. Brian is a native of Northwest Indiana, focusing on the ever changing landscape of the Indiana Dunes.
Rich Manalis’s love of photography started when he was a boy. His interest in small details of texture and patterns created by mother-nature are evident in his photos.
Larry Silverman’s photographic journey to some of Chicago’s highlights is apparent in his “Reflection” series. As your eye focuses on a desired object, the world around us becomes less obvious. On the other hand, when an image is captured by a camera, a new visual experience is created without the internal filters of our mind. Through the combination of the real and reflected scenery, a new image emerges that is often missed by the passerby. His photos are truly a unique experience.
The fascination of light falling on and illuminating landscapes is the story revealed in dramatic black and white photographs by nationally acclaimed photographer Marty Hulsebos.
